Sonia Davis Gutierrez completed her BS in microbiology in1996 and her BA in graphic design in 1998 at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While an undergraduate, she studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain, and attended the Universidad de Salamanca to study art history and graphic design. In 2002, she completed her MFA in Design and Technology at Parsons School of Design in New York. She returned to Fayetteville in 2003 and founded New Design School in 2006 and her design studio 3c21 Design in 2007. New Design School offers adult education through certificate-granting seminars that build toward a career in graphic design. The school is licensed and regulated through the Arkansas State Board of Private Career Education and has successfully renewed its license annually since its founding. Sonia leads (by mayoral invitation) Creative Economy Action Group for the CIty of Fayetteville, and she serves (by invitation) on the University of Arkansas School of Architecture Professional Advisory Board.
