NWA TechFest

NWA TechFest is a for-geeks-by-geeks technology conference held each spring in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This year’s event will be May 17, 2018 at Fayetteville Town Center.

Sky's The Limit

NWA TechFest is a technology conference that brings together the tech community to learn from and interact with one another, as well as promote gender diversity in STEM, economic development opportunities for corporations, and education programs for students and teachers. Proceeds from this conference go to assist STEM-related initiatives in the Northwest Arkansas community.

Sarah’s twitter bio is a short and staccato; “Canadian- American. Educated woman. A mother of boys. Step-mom to teen girls. Someone who thinks code is sexy, and teaching is a high calling.

Though, Sarah is a tech junkie with experience in coding, mobile and web software development and tech initiatives. She hails from New Brunswick, Canada, but has called Arkansas home for 15 years. She runs around with an energetic group of women bloggers though mostly spends her time building and fixing blogs than writing them.

With a passion for tech education, Sarah has taught and created curriculum for kids, college students and grown-ups in corporate settings, as well as help with local tech education initiatives. Sarah is a member of the NWA Tonic Fund, a member managed seed capital fund based in Arkansas, investing in early stage technology and tech-enabled businesses across a variety of industries. Sarah is all about girl power. She champions women’s entrepreneurship and has been a part of programs that teach kids and women to code.

She was born and raised in State College, PA, is a Penn State University graduate as well as a graduate of Universal Accounting Centers. In addition, she spent over 10 years in field operations with profit and loss responsibility for over 15 operating units.Becky has served several non-profits including Northwest Arkansas JDRF and Millwood Christian Church and was one of the co-founding members Dig 4 Diabetes.

Daniel has spent most of his development career in the Asp.net web stack and has spent most of the last 2 years working with Angular and .Net MVC WebAPI. Drew Wallis grew up in Farmington, AR and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2010 with a Double Major in Communication and International Relations. After graduation, he became a licensed teacher and has over 8 years experience teaching educational technology and computer science. Drew Cofounded NWA3D in 2015, an educational 3D printing company based in Fayetteville. He is very passionate about spending time outdoors, STEAM education, and workforce development.

Prior to Tyson Foods, James worked in higher education, first at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, then at Trident Technical College and Pulaski Technical College. At these schools, he worked primarily in technological roles (e.g. technical training, instructional design, web development, and online education) but also in academic ones, teaching American literature and English composition.

Originally from Ft. Worth, Texas, James has lived in Arkansas (first Huntsville, then Fayetteville) since his early teens. He spent nine years in Charleston, South Carolina, but returned to Fayetteville in 2012. He holds a M.A. in English and an M.Ed. in Educational Technology.
